Drama

At Liverpool College we believe in providing opportunities for pupils of all ages to experience and enjoy a wide variety of Drama and Theatre.

The Drama department's base is an attractive studio, ideal for lessons and small-scale productions. Larger productions are staged in the Sutton Timmis Hall, with its proscenium arch stage and seating capacity of 200.

A Level Drama Exam 2008

We pride ourselves on the extremely high standard of our productions, both on stage and behind the scenes, where we work closely with the Theatre Technology and Music Technology departments. Our state of the art lighting and sound equipment affords excellent opportunities to pupils who are interested in the technical side of stagecraft.

At KS3 weekly drama lessons are aimed at developing vocal and physical performance skills and encouraging teamwork and self-control. This leads on to Drama at GCSE level for years 10 and 11 and Advanced level Theatre Studies in the sixth form, both well-established and successful option choices. Theatre visits and practical workshops, local and further afield, feature strongly in these courses.

Extra Speech and Drama lessons are available by arrangement with a visiting peripatetic teacher. These students are entered for LAMDA examinations and for the Liverpool Festival of Speech and Drama.

The Senior School production is performed at the end of the Michaelmas term. Our policy of selecting plays for large casts of mixed ages allows all budding thespians a chance to "tread the boards".

Other creative highlights on the calendar include lunch hour concerts in Sefton Park Palm House and the summer Performing Arts Festival; occasions when dance, drama, poetry and all styles of music are performed.

Drama is very much at the centre of Liverpool College's Performing Arts, and is all the richer for the links it has forged with the other subjects under the Performing Arts umbrella.
