Welcome to our school. We hope to give you a flavour of life here in the Pre-Prep but there is no substitute for visiting us and seeing our happy and industrious children at work. Please telephone Mrs Loveridge, our Registrar, to arrange a visit. We also have a Handbook for parents which should answer any questions you may have. This is available on the Parent Information page of the website and on request.
The Pre-Prep accepts pupils into the Nursery from three years old but pupils may also join the Reception forms from other Nurseries at four years. Children generally transfer at seven, into the Preparatory School and at eleven into the Upper School where they may stay until eighteen in accordance with our Admissions Policy. Thus ensuring continuity of their education.
The aim of the school is to provide a happy, secure environment where the children feel valued as individuals. Their academic, social, emotional, creative and physical needs are nurtured from the beginning. An excellent pupil:staff ratio ensures plenty of individual attention and a caring atmosphere prevails. High standards of behaviour are expected and children are helped to achieve these. Parental involvement is encouraged and meetings are held and reports issued on a regular basis. All forms perform a Christmas play to which parents and carers are invited and from Reception onwards, class assemblies are held for parents. Our College chapel is the venue for the Harvest celebration. Children take an active part in all of these events and parents are welcome to attend. Children bring home a weekly newsletter with, for instance, accounts of events and names of those who have won awards.
The Early Years Foundation Stage, which encompasses Nursery and Reception, follows the Early Learning Goals which are reached by a series of stepping stones. Our aim is for all our children to achieve these Goals and this they do at their own rate. The six areas of learning are:- communication, language and literacy; personal, social and emotional development; mathematical problem solving, reasoning and numeracy; knowledge and understanding of the world; physical development and creative development. Throughout the school the emphasis is on the all round development of the individual and a mixture of form, group and individual teaching is employed. Small classes ensure plenty of individual attention for the children. We aim to promote independence, confidence, self-esteem and self-respect in the children and provide a safe, caring environment where all children feel happy, secure and valued.
The curriculum in Years One and Two consists of English, Mathematics, Science, History, Geography, Art, Design and Technology, Information and Communication Technology, Religious Education and Personal, Social and Health Education. There is specialist teaching for Music, Physical Education and French. Appropriate learning support is given when necessary.
Extra curricular activities are also available.
Educational visits are arranged in conjunction with topics studied. Visitors are also encouraged to come into school and work with the children throughout the year.
The children are encouraged to think of others and have recently raised over £1700 for Ronald Mc Donald House at Alder Hey Hospital. We also donated toys to the Radio City Toy Appeal. Harvest sees produce going to local care homes.
