The Careers Coaching Centre

At Liverpool College the principal aim of careers guidance education is to ensure that by the time the pupils actually have to make decisions they are doing so from an informed position. Therefore, we see ourselves as information providers, supporters and mentors who help the students to understand the significance of career development, supporting them through every phase ensuring they make the right career choice for them.

We now have an allocated Careers Coach and HE Advisor to support students in making choices and exploring careers options. Building upon the existing choices and excellent tutorial support within the college, Ms Julia Dolowicz will be your point of contact and available to discuss your needs whether you're a student or a parent. Please don't hesitate to contact her at JDolowicz@liverpoolcollege.org.uk or 07944 192875.

The aim of the Centre is to assist pupils with the smooth transition from Year 9, choosing GCSE options into to Year 10, supporting them from GCSE's through to sixth form study and university applications, vocational study, or the world of work.

Choosing the right course, subject and career pathway is more important than ever and Ms Dolowicz will work with parents and students to consider all options and support the work that is already being delivered within the school.

Careers coaching is goal orientated with gathering information, assessing and future planning being part of the mix. It can also be viewed as mentoring and pastoral support therefore, any problem a pupil may be experiencing regarding choices, careers and courses are dealt with before they become an issue. Having an allocated careers coach and advisor will support the teaching staff giving more dedicated time and focus to individual students.

The dedicated space can be found in the Library on the mezzanine level where Ms Dolowicz has established the centre. There is also a Virtual Careers Library located on the Intranet in Upper School, with resources, links and relevant information for all ages to explore the variety of career pathways, through the written word or film.

The Careers Coaching Centre is open every Thursday from 8.30am-4.30pm, during term time, Students can drop in or make an appointment. If there is an urgent matter out of these hours, please send Ms Dolowicz an email, or telephone and leave a voicemail message. Alternatively contact your Personal Tutor.

About Ms Dolowicz:

I am a counsellor and careers coach with 15 years experience working in educational and therapeutic settings. Coaching individuals to explore their career options and express those ideas onto paper has been something I have done both formally and informally whether for UCAS personal statements or job applications.

Having qualified as a Counsellor in 1994, I went on to work in Further Education as a Lecturer in Health within both further and higher education settings and therefore worked with the 16-19 age group as well as student welfare. I ran my own private practice and have worked in many settings: Liverpool Health Promotion Service, Liverpool John Moores University and more recently I spent four years at the University of Liverpool, within Student Recruitment and Admissions and the Graduate into Employment Unit.

Having always worked with individuals on a private basis from a wide variety of diverse backgrounds I feel very blessed to be working this way. An NLP practitioner (Neuro Linguistic Programming Practitioner) I am also a Licensed Buzan iMindMap Instructor.

I have just written a book entitled 'How to create your Personal statement in 7 Steps' and I'm delighted to say it has been accepted by publishers in Oxford with a due date for publication in March/April 2011.

For the past 10 years my specialty has been working with people from a wide age range, who are exploring subject options, career choices, educational pathways, UCAS personal statements, and individuals preparing their job applications, interviews and delivering presentations. For more information: please visit here . I also work with ex service personnel in a coaching and counselling capacity, for more information click here
