5 Battle of Britain Heroes remembered

On May 12th at the CCF Annual Inspection a special Memorial Plaque was presented in honour of FIVE FORMER PUPILS who became part of Winston Churchill's famous 'FEW'.

Air Vice Marshal Harold A C Bird-Wilson CBE DSO DFC & Bar AFC & Bar. (1937) 17 Squadron

Pilot Officer John Colin Mungo Park DFC & Bar. (1934) 74 Squadron

Air Commodore Maurice Wilbraham Sandford Robinson CBE. (1928) 73 Squadron.

Flight Lieutenant John T Webster DFC. (1934) 41 Squadron.

Squadron Leader William Hubert R Whitty DFC. (1931) 607 Squadron

The Plaque from The Battle of Britain Historical Society, the first to be presented in Lancashire, was unveiled by Major General Murray Wildman CBE and will be displayed in the chapel alongside the war memorial boards.

Family Members and friends of three of the men attended the presentation at the College.

They included the sister of AVM Bird-Wilson and Lady Odette Dowding - daughter in law of Air Chief Marshal Sir Hugh Dowding, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief Fighter Command.
