During the Easter holidays, a group of DofE members who are planning to go canoeing in the rivers of Canada, had a practice expedition in a picturesque location of the Lake District.
The trip itself lasted 5 days and 4 nights which started on Sunday 11th April and finished on Thursday 15th April. During which time, 11 of us fitted into a tight but yet somehow comfortable, 8 person accommodation, all sharing a 'powerfull drizzle' for a shower.
During the trip, we learnt many skills. How to save yourself when you have capsized, how to save someone else if they capsize . We learnt a variety of different stokes that can be used when out open water canoeing. This all came in very handy when we set of on an 8 mile expedition across Lake Ullswater. It was a difficult and strenuous journey which took 4 hours to complete, however there was a great satisfaction when we finished.
As a group we camped overnight before heading back on the Thursday.
Overall the trip was fantastic, we really enjoyed ourselves and we took some great photographs and memories away from it with us.
This practice expedition set us up for what seem's will be a great trip to Canada.
