GCSE Results 2017

Liverpool College pupils are celebrating the best GCSE results in living memory.

Despite the introduction of more difficult GCSEs in maths, English language and English literature, progress and attainment are both substantially up.

Incredibly, 95% of all pupils passed maths, 96% passed English literature or language, and 79% and 91% did so at the strong pass level respectively. This achievement is even more remarkable in the context of the government proclaiming these GCSEs more challenging than in previous years. 65% of pupils achieved the Ebacc, the highest ever, and 60% achieved it with the government’s new “strong pass” target.

Because of the new complexity of the GCSE system, it now requires a person with a first class Oxbridge Maths degree to calculate the progress and attainment of pupils. Fortunately Mr Evans, our data manager, meets these requirements and he has already established that overall attainment rose substantially, and progress for the cohort was better than expected. Elisha R was one of the standout performers achieving 8A*s equivalents, including two 9s in English language and literature, the grade which has been described by educationalists as “impossible”.

The vast majority of our pupils will join our thriving and successful sixth form. We congratulate all our pupils on their great achievements. Thanks must also go to our dedicated teaching and support staff who have worked tirelessly and with total conviction to support, inspire, and teach our pupils.
