The Sixth Form at Liverpool College is thriving. We offer high quality teaching by well trained staff who support the ethos of learning and understanding whilst promoting the academic excellence for which Liverpool College is well known. Progress is carefully monitored throughout the two year programme. The tutor groups are small and intimate and the atmosphere in the Sixth Form is welcoming and friendly, as it is in the College as a whole.
For current Year 11 pupils planning to enter the Sixth Form in September 2011, a full programme of A Levels is available. The Sixth Form curriculum is described in detail in the A level Options Booklet
A level students study four AS levels, complete an Extended Project (EPQ), a minumum of 100 logged enrichment hours, and an AS level in General Studies, and this leads to the award of the AQA Baccalaureate, an additional qualification indicating a broader and deeper level of educational achievement.
Liverpool College is also an approved IB World School. The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme is a rigorous, holistic and aspirational curriculum which requires, from the outset, sustained motivation over two years across a broad range of subjects. The IB 'graduates' of 2011 achieved outstandingly good results in their examinations, and in gaining entry to the univeristies of their mostly first choice. The IB programme is only offered subject to a sufficient number of Year 11 students opting for it.
Whatever the qualification route, our aim is to develop not only the intellect but also the character of our Sixth Form students, and for students to go on to enjoy further success in Higher Education, further training or employment. Whether the student chooses traditional A Levels or the more international and broad-based IB, both are challenging programmes that will require motivation and the development of good organisational skills.
