Why Liverpool College Sixth Form:

Academic Focus

Our Sixth Form is focused on academic excellence. We have a proven track record of results and university admissions. We focus on achieving the best results for each pupil and hold pupils and ourselves accountable for those results.

Individual Attention

Our class sizes are small, on average less than 10 pupils per class.

We believe that small class sizes make discussion, intellectual exploration, and personalized learning possible. Unlike schools with class sizes of 25, 30 or even 35, our pupils benefit from personal attention and a collaborative learning environment. In an A level class of 25, how can classroom discussion occur? How can a teacher know why a pupil may be struggling? How can anything other than the most basic and reduced curriculum be taught? Sixth Form studies should be different from GCSE studies. The teacher should have the opportunity to work with smaller groups of pupils to develop their skills, guide their progress, and expand their intellectual horizons.

Teaching

Our teachers know their pupils, encourage them, exhort them, and challenge them. We believe that nothing leads to more success in the Sixth Form then strong relationships between pupils and teachers.

Good education requires relationships. To teach well, you have to know your student. Our experienced teachers care about pupils beyond their subject and beyond their classroom. They are mentors and guides. A recent ISI reporter described relationship between pupils and teachers as "outstanding."

University and Career Guidance

We believe that Sixth Formers need and deserve individual attention in exploring careers and university options

Our Careers and University Coaching Centre and pastoral system support pupils in pursuing their university applications and making good decisions about their future paths.

In a competitive university admission environment, good guidance and professional support are invaluable. Our University and Careers advisor works individually with each Sixth Formers. Our relationship with the Independent School Careers service, our UCAS tutors and our Choices programme and Sixth Form lecture programme provide individual guidance before and during the UCAS process and support to our Sixth Formers as they plan the next step in their education.

The AQA Baccalaureate and the University of Liverpool

We believe there is more to Sixth Form than 3 A Levels. The AQA Baccalaureate is a broad qualification which combines independent learning skills, enrichment activities, general studies and the possibility of pursuing 4 A levels.

Our partnership with the University of Liverpool allows pupils to experience university courses, lectures, and University facilities like the library.

A Curriculum to develop the whole person

Sixth Form at the College develops and stretches the whole person. Our pupils are involved in a wide array of activities and sports.

Our Sixth Formers participate in more than 100 sports fixtures per academic year. They are coached by professionals. We offer a comprehensive programme for Duke of Edinburgh Award, the Combined Cadet Force, and participation in theatre productions, musical groups, and the arts. We build confidence and leadership potential through these programmes.
