The Group Four Project
Last week IB students at Liverpool College completed the 'Group Four Project'. This is a compulsory component of the IB course, with students of Biology, Chemistry, Physics and DT working together on a common investigative project. This was independent learning in action, as normal lessons were suspended; sixth form life became more like a week from 'The Apprentice'!
The title 'A Saturday Night Out' certainly captured the imagination! Students worked in designated groups to choose an aspect of the theme to investigate. During the next three days they devised their own experiments, carried them out and came to their own conclusions. Finally they were required to present their work on a display board, give a 5 minute presentation to the IB students, staff, and a guest judge!
The best overall project was announced, 'Can your Heels suSTAIN a Night Out?' as judged Dr Dickson from the University of Liverpool. This project focused upon the science of high heels and the washing of stained clothes. Although Dr Dickson presented this group with the Group Four Cup, everyone involved with this project was a winner. It was an invaluable experience that was enjoyed by both students and staff.
