GCSE Results 2025
Congratulations to this year’s GCSE students who are celebrating an excellent set of results, both individually and collectively. The class of 2025 exceeded both local and national figures on attainment, as well as those of previous years at Liverpool College.
Particular congratulations go to the individual successes, especially to Jeffrey L, Enzo S and Ismail A who averaged a grade 9 over all of their 10 GCSEs subjects. An impressive total of 15 pupils averaged a grade 8 and above over their 9 or 10 GCSE subjects.
This cohort, who were unable to sit their Year 6 SATs and missed much of their early years in the senior phase due to the pandemic, deserve particular congratulations for their resilience and fortitude in achieving these excellent results despite these challenges.
In terms of the overall GCSE cohort, an impressive fifth of pupils attained the top grades of a grade 8 or 9, 36% a grade 7 or above and 77% a grade 5 or above, all of which represent an increase on our 2024 figures and are over 15% above emerging national figures. Contrary to the national trend of decreasing attainment, our attainment 8 score (a measure of the performance of 8 key GCSE grades) matched our 2024 figure of 5.5. Subjects that performed particularly well were DT, Biology, Chemistry, Latin, Geography, History and BTEC IT.
In terms of groups of pupils, we are delighted with the results of our more vulnerable groups, with our twenty-four economically disadvantaged pupils attaining on average over one whole grade above similarly disadvantaged pupils in 2024. In addition, our 28 pupils with SEND needs attained an average grade of a 5, an increase on the average grade of a 4 for our SEND pupils in 2024. Both of these groups of pupils were a particular focus for Liverpool College for 2025, and will continue to be in the years ahead.
In comparison to early figures for the City as a whole, Liverpool College remains the highest performing non selective co-educational school in the City for attainment at GCSE in 2025. Congratulations to all our students for their very well-earned GCSE results.
These results meant that many pupils are able to progress into the next phase of their education at an institution of their choice. An increased percentage have chosen to continue their studies at Liverpool College to join our thriving and expanding Sixth Form cohort for September 2025. Indeed, our excellent results across both GCSE and A Level this year have attracted record number of students for our Sixth Form this September. We wish all our GCSE pupils of 2025 well for their future successes.
