Results Day 2023

The class of 2023 have been celebrating some fantastic A-level and BTEC grades today and we congratulate the whole cohort on their efforts.

Head Boy Ethan led the way with 4 grade A*s and was closely followed by Amelia Y, Charlie and Aleks who all gained 3 grade A*s.
A total of 21 students achieved at least a 3 grade A average score and are off to some exciting destinations next month.
All six of our students who applied for medicine, dental surgery and veterinary medicine have secured their places along with a vast range of university courses from accounting to theoretical physics.
Congratulations to the students who topped the list of 'value added' achievements - Kristiano, Libby, Charlie, Jack, Levent, Adam, Kian, Kabir, Aleks and Joe have all worked very hard and have a bright future ahead of them.
This is a cohort who suffered a loss of schooling during the pandemic and did not sit formal exams so their results are especially pleasing in light of these challenges.
The cohort will now celebrate with a Prom event next week and wish each and every one of them a happy, healthy and successful future.

Boarders' Charity Fundraising for Cancer Research

Every May, Cancer Research host their 100 Miles in May challenge to raise money for life-saving cancer research.
Our challenge is to walk 100 miles each, whether that's 3.3 miles a day or a long walk on the weekend (something that our weekend boarders are keen on).
Our fundraising goal is to reach £100 (£1 for each mile).
We are asking our boarders to aim for 7,550 steps per day (52,850 weekly) and we will be keeping track of everyone's progress. As they reach different milestones, they will receive badges to commemorate their achievements.

Eurovision!

On Wednesday night, we took the boarders and day boarders to the Eurovision Village - what an amazing opportunity to experience something so magnificent in our own city!

We got to see the Floating Earth by Luke Jerram, who used detailed NASA images to create the 10-meter Earth's surface floating in three dimensions with the amazing backdrop of the inner quay.

As we were walking around we also saw some of the Soloveiko Songbirds, which is the national bird of Ukraine and a symbol of song and happiness, followed by a performance from Finland's act for the Eurovision.

It was lovely to see so many happy faces celebrating different nationalities and cultures.

U16 Rugby 7s Tournament

On Wednesday the first of the Rugby 7s tournaments took place for the U16s at Chester RUC. Twelve enthusiastic Chapter 11s took time off from their GCSEs to play in this tournament and they didn't let us down with Kayde G, Jacob W and Jake W outstanding throughout. Wins versus Merchant Taylors, Shrewsbury School and Scarisbrick Hall School ensured a very creditable third place in the tournament. We look forward to many more Rugby 7s after half term including hosting our own Rugby 7s under 12s tournament in March.

Pupils to meet with Supreme Court Justice

Liverpool College has an exciting event planned after half term. Lord Burrows, a Supreme Court Justice for the United Kingdom, has kindly agreed to meet with Liverpool College pupils to answer their questions about the British legal system. All pupils from Ch9 to Ch13 were given an opportunity to indicate if they have an interest in Law as a possible future profession – it was these pupils and students who subsequently were selected to present their questions to Lord Burrows. The Supreme Court is the final court of appeal in the UK both for civil cases and criminal cases. They only hear cases of the greatest public or constitutional importance affecting the whole population. This is indeed a superb opportunity. To help the students make the most of this opportunity, Liverpool Judge, Mr Richard Baker, volunteered to come into the school to lead a session about the UK legal structure, its history and the role of the Supreme Court. His talk ensured the pupils were well informed and well prepared for their upcoming audience with the Justice of the Supreme Court, ensuring they are able to ask relevant and meaningful questions. Our thanks to Mr Baker for his valuable time in helping to prepare our students. This is an event they will never forget.

Ch12 Oxbridge Talk

Aspire to be all you can be! – that was the theme of a talk for Chapter 12 students this week. Led by Oxford University Outreach co-ordinator Miss McMurtrie, students were encouraged to think about the advantages and logistics of attending the most prestigious Universities in the UK, Oxford, Cambridge and top Russell Group Universities. Topics such as writing personal statements, bursaries, interview techniques and student finance were all explored. Additionally, students were given guidance about work experience and ideas for super-curricular activities that foster a love of subjects and showcase a student’s passions for their subject. Feedback from students after the event indicated they found the session to be both informative and inspirational.
