Communicating with Parents

The following statement is provided to parents so they are aware of Liverpool College's responsibilities:

‘The school ensures children learn in a safe, caring and enriching environment. Children are taught how to keep themselves safe, to develop positive and healthy relationships, how to avoid situations where they might be at risk including by being exploited.

The school also has a statutory responsibility to share any concerns it might have about a child in need of protection with other agencies and in particular police, health and children’s services. Schools are not able to investigate concerns but have a legal duty to refer them. In most instances the school will be able to inform the parents/carer of its need to make a referral. However, sometimes the school is advised by children’s services or police that the parent/carer cannot be informed whilst they investigate the matter. We understand the anxiety parents/carers understandably feel when they are not told about any concerns from the outset. The school follows legislation that aims to act in the interests of the child.

The school will always seek to work in partnership with parents and other agencies to ensure the best possible outcomes for the child and family.’

Advice to parents/carers and families about their engagement of clubs and activities that are not organised by the school

Many parents or carers enable their child/children to attend clubs and activities that aren’t organised by the school. Parents and carers may find the following useful to support them to assess the suitability of the arrangements:

Information for parents choosing an after school club, community activity or tuition

Operation Encompass

We participate in a project in partnership with Merseyside Police called Operation Encompass alongside all other schools in Liverpool.  The project, aims to support children who are affected by domestic abuse.  Each school has a member of staff (key adult) who is trained to liaise with the police, when required, whilst ensuring support is available to the child.  If you would like to speak to someone further about the project or require further information, please do not hesitate to contact our Key Adult, Mrs Duffy (This email address is being protected from spambots. MidYIS Test:  Chapter 7:  September
MidYIS is a computer-adaptive assessment for pupils aged 11 to 14, that provides information to help us identify pupils' strengths and weaknesses, and predict how our pupils are likely to perform at GCSE.

MidYIS assesses four key areas which research shows are linked to later academic outcomes:

  • Vocabulary – word fluency and understanding
  • Mathematics – logical thinking, manipulating numbers and numerical concepts
  • Non-verbal ability – recognising shapes, matching patterns, applying spatial awareness and visual intuition
  • Skills - such as proofreading, perceptual speed and accuracy

As the assessment is adaptive, each pupil sees a unique assessment and is challenged at a level that is suitable for them, making it enjoyable, engaging, and efficient.

YELLIS Test: Chapter 10:  September

Yellis is an adaptive baseline assessment for pupils aged 14-16, that helps us understand what our pupils know and can highlight where they need support as they prepare for their GCSEs.  Yellis also provides value-added information to help us see the effect our teaching is having, and shows the progress our students are making at school.

Yellis assesses three key areas of learning:

  • Vocabulary – word fluency and understanding
  • Mathematics – logical thinking, manipulating numbers and numerical concepts
  • Non-verbal ability – ability to match patterns, reflections and rotations and apply visual intuition

Each student completes the assessment independently, working at a computer.

ALIS Test: Chapter 12: September

Alis is an adaptive baseline assessment for students aged 16 to 18, that provides information to help identify students’ strengths and weaknesses and see how they are likely to perform at A Level.

GL Assessment: Chapters 7 & 8:

Social and emotional wellbeing is essential for effective learning, yet there will always be pupils who lack confidence in their learning and who don’t always feel connected with school and their teachers.  PASS takes the guesswork out of understanding why this might be, focusing on three broad areas – how a pupil feels about themselves, their engagement with the curriculum, and their feelings about school.   These correspond to nine factors proven to be linked to educational goals: feelings about school, perceived learning capability, self-regard, attitudes to teachers, general work ethic, attitudes to attendance, preparedness for learning, response to curriculum demands, and confidence in learning.

SUMMER PUBLIC EXAMINATIONS TIMETABLE 2026

Joint Contingency Examination Day for all Awarding Bodies

All candidates to remain available on the morning and afternoon sessions of Wednesday 24 June 2026.

The Awarding Bodies have designated  ‘contingency days’ for examinations. This is consistent with the qualification regulators’ document Exam system contingency plan: England, Wales and Northern Ireland  gov.uk

The designation of a ‘contingency day’ within the common examination timetable is in the event of national or significant local disruption to examinations in the United Kingdom. It is part of the awarding bodies’ standard contingency planning for examinations. Centres must therefore remind candidates that they must remain available should an awarding body need to invoke its contingency plan.

Liverpool College Public Examination Timetable is published following the release of Awarding Bodies' basedata and all internal checks are complete.

Candidates receive their Individual timetable with seating plans and any agreed Access Arrangements in advance of the Easter Holidays, following all internal checks via the House System.

  • 7 May 2026 Date of first GCSE examination on common timetable
  • 11 May 2026 Date of first A Level examination on common timetable
  • 17 June 2026: Date of final GCSE examination on common timetable
  • 23 June 2026: Date of Final A Level examination on commmon timetable
  • Contingency date:  24th June 2026
